A highly anticipated new exhibition is coming to Toronto offering a fresh new take on one of rock music’s most iconic bands — Pink Floyd. Their Mortal Remains will open at the Better Living Centre in Exhibition Place on June 16.
Legendary Toronto music promoter Michael Cohl, who has worked with everyone from the Rolling Stones and U2 to Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, is at the helm alongside creative director Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell, the visionary artist behind the band’s legendary album covers and artworks. So there is little doubt this immersive showcase is set to unveil the extraordinary five-decade legacy of Pink Floyd and their profound impact on art and culture.
Cohl, executive producer of the exhibition and Canadian promoter of the show, expressed his excitement about bringing the exhibition to Toronto.
“After a hugely successful run in Montreal this past year, it was time to bring The Pink Floyd Exhibition to Toronto to rock the summer,” he said. “It’s only fitting since Pink Floyd has such strong ties to the city, notably the sold-out 1987 shows that launched the next phase of their storied career. I am thrilled to be able to present this exhibition in my hometown where we can all celebrate Pink Floyd’s legacy.”
In collaboration with the renowned designers Stufish, the exhibition delves deep into the mesmerizing universe of Pink Floyd, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the band’s groundbreaking music and explore the boundless creativity that shaped their artistic journey. From their early beginnings to their meteoric rise to fame, and their enduring influence on generations of music lovers, Their Mortal Remains promises an awe-inspiring experience that transcends time and musical boundaries.
Entering the exhibit, visitors will be “transported to the band’s beginnings in 1967 on the underground scene and then take a chronological trip through Pink Floyd’s history, connecting with music, art and design, sound technology and live performance via landmark albums such as The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and The Division Bell.”
Darrell Brown, CEO of the Canadian National Exhibition Association (CNEA), shared his enthusiasm.
“Pink Floyd has an enduring history in Toronto starting with their premiere concert in 1973 at Maple Leaf Gardens; and having performed at Exhibition Stadium seven times during the 80s and 90s,” he said. “The CNE has a rich musical legacy, and we are honored to be hosting this incredible retrospective on the grounds where many of their most memorable Toronto concerts took place. The CNEA is proud to be part of this extraordinary exhibition that brings the history and music of Pink Floyd into a new light.”
The Pink Floyd Exhibition, Their Mortal Remains, will be held at the Better Living Centre, with doors opening on June 16 and running Tuesday to Sunday.
