Hold the anchovies, the Maple Leafs have a new home helmet sponsor.
The bare portion of their blue Bay St. lids will now be linked to pepperoni, mushrooms and green peppers after a deal was announced that Pizza Pizza will get the coveted ad space, starting with their home game against Florida on Tuesday night.
A new road helmet sponsor has not been chosen.
The often-controversial social media platform TikTok took the first opening in 2021 when the National Hockey League began allowing ads on helmets, but the Leafs dropped the logo on the eve of the ’23-24 season for unstated reasons. The club and TikTok continue other existing sponsorship paths.
Pizza Pizza and the Leafs have been partners for 25 years. The Canadian company was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Toronto, with many of its 500 nation-wide locations in the GTA. A popular giveaway for Leafs fans at Scotiabank Arena is a free slice if Toronto gets a first-period goal.
A year ago, the Leafs and the Dairy Farmers of Ontario reached a sponsorship deal for the club’s first sweater patch ad, with the DFO’s ‘Milk’ script trademark appearing on the front.
